Show Notes99: How Writing A Book Has Changed My Life
How writing a book changed my life and why writing one can change yours too.
Writing a book will teach us a lot of things. Patience, hard work, and desire to see the finished products. Writing a book has changed my life in so many ways, but I think my favorite has to be how it has given me instant credibility, given me a platform to talk to people about my business.
02:22- 02:44 Not the best book in the world but mine and it has changed my life. It has given me instant credibility, given me a platform to talk to people about my business and coaching services. It’s been a fun and rewarding process to see my name in print. To be honest, it’s been awesome to my ego too. 02:49- 02:51 I wrote personal branding secrets and then later, 02:55- 03:06 I wrote Make It Happen. Ways to get from stuck to unstoppable without changing who you are and even if no one believes in you or stands by you.
Set an intention to be a published author
04:19- 04:27 The actual desire to be a published author is hugely important because without that burning desire it might not ever happen.
04:28- 04:35 The fear and procrastination will derail you, so if you keep your eye on the ultimate goal, you’ll be able to get through it.
04:36- 04:58 See yourself with your book on bookshelves. See yourself signing books and having sales coming in, again and again. Imagine what your cover would look like. Visualize being interviewed on Ellen talking about your book, Oprah talking about your book. Put a mock cover on your dream board.
5:00- 05:29 I set an intention to write a book but I didn’t have an idea. So I asked the Universe for a million-dollar book title. And then within a week, I came up with Make it Happen. Ways to go from stuck to unstoppable without changing who you are and even nobody believes in you and stands by you. Time will tell if it’s going to make me a million dollars, but the Universe at least gave me a great idea.
Find creative ways to get it done fast
05:34- 05:54 There’s no need to spend years writing your book. Nine months, eight months to write your book. Remember at school when you would pull an all-nighter, put in you midnight oil, and get your 5000-word essay done? Well, channel that part of yourself.
Decide how you’re going to publish it
08:14- 08:30 There are so many different options on how to get published and although I’m not going to trash traditional publishing, I love Jerry Roberts, to be honest, it can seem like a whole lot of work for a small chance, especially if you’re just starting out.
09:01- 09:17 I love the sense of self-publishing because I’m all about an instant book author. Once your cover is out, it's instant self-gratification. It's out now. It's out immediately.
09:21- 09:42 You could literally have a book up in 48 hours. I'm not kidding. Even up to this week, the end of this week your book will be out. The downside is that there is a lot of crap being published out there. That is why it's important to do it well. Also, the advantage is that your work will stand out.
Plan how you’re going to make money out of the book
10:23- 10:24 Monetizing is key.
11:05- 11:15 The most successful self-publishing stories are either very prolific writers or entrepreneurs who have a big back end stable of other products and services.
13:00- 13:16 So writing a book can literally change your life. Would you regret letting the opportunity pass you by and live a life of regret just because you’re scared or frustrated by the process? No! Just go for it. 13:18-13:20 I can’t wait to read your book.
- It strengthens my self-belief.
- It gives me instant credibility.
- It gives me the desire to work hard.
- It changed other people’s lives too.
- It gives me more opportunities.
